A Season of Change and Small Steps Forward

Fall has settled here in East Texas. The mornings are cool, the leaves are falling, and the days are much shorter. Even though I am not a fan of cooler weather, I do welcome the season change. (It’s when the earth, covered under a blanket of leaves, is getting ready to take its rest for winter).

Our household has gone through some changes this season, but things are definitely not slowing down. Eric is back home after nine months of being away for work and we’re trying to find routine, but one of our biggest projects to date stands in the way - our upcoming U-pick strawberry farm. As we have been preparing and moving forward on planting strawberry plants it hasn’t been as simple or as straightforward as we would have hoped. We have had obstacle after obstacle, from weather that wouldn’t cooperate, equipment that didn’t want to run, and finding the time in our already busy schedule.

We've spent the last week sitting in the field with sore knees, aching backs and weary souls, thinking what in the world have we gotten ourselves into?

Life doesn’t wait for the perfect conditions. So, we dug in, literally.

Last week we planted roughly 1500 strawberry plants. That still leaves about 5,500 to go, but you know what. Progress is progress.

It was extremely satisfying to see row after row freshly planted strawberry starts knowing it wasn’t easy, but we did it anyway.

We don’t have everything figured out, but we are going to keep going and trust God in the process.

If you’re in a season where you seem stuck, you have a list of unchecked boxes, half-baked dreams, and nothing seems to be going as planned-

Remember

Small steps count.

Faithful efforts still matter

Progress is still progress.

Thank you for being here and walking alongside our family, cheering us on and encouraging us. I can’t wait to invite you to the field next spring when these long tedious days have turned into rows of delicious berries to be picked.

Until then, we’ll keep planting.

One plant, one row, one day at time.
